UT FRREC Co-Hosts TN Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting


Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting The UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center co-hosted the eleventh annual Tennessee Prescribed Fire Council meeting on February 6th in the UT Arboretum Auditorium. Dr. Emma Willcox, Assistant Professor, UT Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries Department, was the master of ceremonies for the meeting. The meeting agenda featured research and field operations associated with the use of prescribed fire in the Southern Appalachians. The meeting was well attended by over seventy attendees represented by foresters, wildlife biologists, university researchers, and forest landowners.

Big Turnout for the Smartphone Camera Program


Smartphone Lecture 2019 Over a 100 people were in attendance at “The Best Camera May Be the One in Your Pocket” program that was presented on Thursday, February 7, at the Oak Ridge Campus of Roane State Community College. Doug Edlund, Assistant Director of Operations, Marketing and Communications at the UT Institute of Agriculture, shared his tips and tricks to get the most out of smartphone photography. Doug also shared many of his personal photos and associated stories, plus techniques and settings on a smartphone camera that will help users fully utilize their devices. The program - co-sponsored by the UT Arboretum Society and the UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center - was well received by the audience and Doug stayed well after the program was over to meet with members of the audience on their specific questions and needs.

5th Annual UT Arboretum Society/FRREC "New Year's Walk"


Fifth Annual New Year's Day Hike 2019 The UT Arboretum Society (UTAS) hosted the fifth annual “New Year’s Walk” at the UT Arboretum on Monday January 1st, 2019. The event started out again this year in the UT Arboretum Auditorium at 9:30 am for a “meet and greet” with UTAS members that included free coffee, hot chocolate and snacks. At 10 am the attendees left the visitors center for two different group walks led by Ms. Hella Peterson, UTAS Board Member (not pictured), and Dr. Kevin Hoyt, UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center Director (orange cap - upper right). The mild January temperatures helped to boost the attendance to over 100 folks of all ages.
